The Envisioned Church: One Baptism

Notes Download

Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. Ephesians 4:3-5 (NIV)

There WERE ____ baptisms MENTIONED in the new testament.

  1. I UNDERSTAND ______________ & __________________.

So don’t let anyone criticize you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating Jewish holidays and feasts or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths. 17 For these were only temporary rules that ended when Christ came. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV)

  1. I SEE BAPTISM’S ____________________ WITH THE ____________.

Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. 3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (NIV)

Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus. 36 As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?” Acts 8:35-36 (NIV)

  1. I ACCEPT BAPTISM AS MY _____________ TO MY OWN __________.

Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death…6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7 because anyone who has died has been set free from sin. Romans 6:3-4a, 6-7 (NIV)

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.  Galatians 2:20 (ESV)

  1. I SHARE IN THE __________ OF ________________ THRU BAPTISM.

  1. I TRUST THE ________________ WE ______________ AT BAPTISM.

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.” Acts 2:38-39 (NIV)

  1. I EMBRACE THE ______________ OF ______________ AT BAPTISM.

…he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, Titus 3:5 (NIV)

Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.[a]“How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. John 3:3-5 (NIV)

  1. I REALIZE BAPTISM IS MY ________ ___________ TO THE GOSPEL.

He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
2 Thessalonians 1:8 (NIV)

God waited patiently while Noah built the ship. In this ship a few people—eight in all—were saved by water. 21 Baptism, which is like that water, now saves you. Baptism doesn’t save by removing dirt from the body. Rather, baptism is a request to God for a clear conscience. It saves you through Jesus Christ, who came back from death to life. 1 Peter 3:20b-21 (GW)

And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.’ Acts 22:16 (NIV)
