Jesus Take On Truth Error And Eternity
Jesus Take On Truth Error And Eternity
And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine… Acts 2:42a (NKJV)
I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. 18 For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people. Romans 16:17-18 (NIV)
…Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. 12 Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. 13 This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. 14 Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. Ephesians 4:11-14 (NLT)
UNITY DEMANDS I __________ WHAT THE APOSTLES’ TEACHINGS ARE.
- They are the ________________ ____ ____________.
On the night before Jesus’ crucifixion, He told His disciples: 12 “I still have many things to tell you, but you can’t bear them now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth. For he will not speak on his own, but he will speak whatever he hears… 14 He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. 15 Everything the Father has is mine…” John 16:11-15 (CSB)
- They are the ________________ ____________________.
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 2 Timothy 3:16 (NLT)
UNITY DEMANDS I __________ & _________ THE APOSTLES’ TEACHINGS.
- Jesus ______________ preaching & ____________ us to preach.
Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.” Mark 1:38 (NIV)
Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. 14 He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach… Mark 3:13-14 (NIV)
On that day a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria…4 Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went. Acts 8:1, 4 (NIV)
- God’s Holy Spirit ____________ & ____________ us to preach.
My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power…13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. 1 Corinthians 2:4, 13 (NIV)
PREACHING LESSONS FROM JESUS ON TRUTH, ERROR, & ETERNITY:
- ________ THAT THERE ARE 2 ROADS LEADING INTO ETERNITY.
“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. Matthew 7:13–14 (NIV)
One road is wide, heavily traveled, and leads to destruction.
One road is narrow, lightly traveled, and leads to life
I can’t arrive at the right destination if I’m on the __________ road.
- I SHOULD ________ EVERY TEACHER BY GOD’S WORD.
“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. Matthew 7:15–20 (NIV)
There are true prophets who present Jesus’ teachings accurately.
There are false prophets who claim to present Jesus’ teachings, but don’t.
I can’t forget that Satan’s plot to destroy me involves _________________.
- ______________ CLAIMING TO BE A CHRISTIAN DOESN’T MAKE ME ONE.
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ Matthew 7:21–23 (NIV)
There are people who sensationally, but falsely, claim Jesus as Lord.
There is a “plain” refutation of their salvation by Jesus.
I can’t be right with God when embracing __________ teachings.
- SALVATION REQUIRES THAT I HAVE AN ________________ FAITH.
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” Matthew 7:24–27 (NIV)
The storms of life are indiscriminate.
Obedience doesn’t remove the storm, but helps me endure it.
My greatest error is to hear true teaching & __________________ it.
